Did you know we are moving?

After 25 years in our Gilmour Street location, we will be moving this summer to our new home at 881 Lady Ellen Place in Ottawa.  With easy access from the Queensway, and plenty of free parking, we hope our new location will fit the needs of all of our clients, as well as our staff, as we continue to grow.  Stay tuned for more detailed information about our new location, move date, and once we move in, our open house.

Federal Budget Commentary 2013

The Federal government presented its 2013 Budget on Thursday March 21, 2013. Hendry Warren is pleased to offer a commentary discussing the contents of the 2013 Budget.

T1 Season is here

The new T1 season has officially begun at Hendry Warren.  To assist with personal income tax preparation Hendry Warren's 2012 Tax Highlights, Personal Income Tax Return Checklist and forms were sent out the last week of February.  These forms can also be found under our Resources tab.  If you have any questions please contact us.

Dress for Success Ottawa

In February, Marie Fraser joined the board of the Ottawa chapter of Dress for Success as its new Treasurer.

The mission of the organization is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire and career development tools to help them thrive in work and life.  For more information on the organization and its programs go to the Dress for Success webpage.

 

Key Clubbers at Lisgar Race for Hendry Warren

During the Accora Bed Race for Kiwanis on Saturday, the Kiwanis Key Clubbers from Lisgar High School entered the race sponsored by Hendry Warren. The team used a Christmas theme, and got some attention from the Winterlude mascot Ice Hogs.

Mandatory Electronic Filing for Tax Preparers

Effective January 1, 2013, tax preparers who file more than 10 returns are required to file them electronically. Mandatory electronic filing applies to the filing of both T1 General Income Tax and Benefit returns and T2 Corporation Income Tax Returns for the 2012 and later tax years.  Penalties for non-compliance are $25 for each T1 General return that is paper-filed and $100 for each T2 corporation return that is paper-filed.  As a result, please note that Hendry Warren LLP can no longer paper file personal and corporate tax returns for 2012 taxation years and later, subject to the exclusions outlined below.

The following returns do not need to be filed electronically:

• Returns for tax years before 2012
• T1 General Income Tax and Benefit Returns filed after November 30th in any year
• Excluded T1 General Income Tax Returns and T2 Corporation Income Tax Returns

Successful UFE Writers!

Congratulations to Nick, Scott and Megan, who recently received their Uniform Final Examination results and were successful. All three work in audit, accounting and taxation and are valuable members of the Hendry Warren team. Upon completion of the requisite number of hours in public accounting, each will receive their CA designation in 2013. We wish them long and prosperous careers at Hendry Warren.

Harmony House Initiative

The staff of Hendry Warren are very proud to once again sponsor two families through Harmony House, a second stage shelter for women and children recovering from domestic violence. This time of year can be particularily difficult for those in need and our staff hope to brighten the season for a couple of families. Our "Angel Tree" is up and Santa's helpers are hard at work!
