Daniel B. Warren, CA, TEP

Dan fulfills a dual role at Hendry Warren LLP. Dan services the accounting needs of a large diverse client base and also leads our income tax practice with Ian Hendry. Dan’s practice focuses on owner-managed businesses which involves a unique blend of business, financial and tax issues at the corporate and personal levels. He believes that the business is an extension of the owner and that it must fulfill the owner’s goals and needs. Dan understands entrepreneurs and is a trusted advisor to his clients.

Dan is also an income tax specialist. His areas of expertise include federal and provincial income taxation, personal financial planning, the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Ontario Retail Sales and Harmonized Sales Tax, business succession planning and corporate restructuring.

Dan advises individual and corporate clients on a multitude of tax, finance, accounting and business issues including scientific research and experimental tax credits, use of the Capital Gains exemption, remuneration and dividend planning, income splitting, use of trusts and the effective use of holding corporations. He makes representations to tax authorities in connection with audits and appeals on clients’ behalf. Always current with developments in the area of federal and provincial taxation, Dan is often consulted by fellow CAs, CMAs, and CGAs as well as lawyers to assist in their clients’ tax matters.

Dan is active in our community. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Elisabeth Bruyere Research Institute and sits on their Finance Working Committee. Dan is a past member of the Sponsorship Committee for the Fuller-Keon Golf Tournament which is held annually for the benefit of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation.

An avid hockey fan, Dan coached minor hockey for the Nepean Minor Hockey Association (NMHA) for 10 years during which time he was co-ordinator of the Skills competition for the Bell Capital Cup at the Nepean venues and was co-ordinator of the annual house league sort-out process for the various age levels of the NMHA.

A Chartered Accountant, Dan is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO), the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), the Canadian Tax Foundation and The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He also is a past executive committee member of the Ottawa chapter of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He is a regular lecturer and past tutor for the CICA Income Tax Practice Course, a past tutor for the CICA In Depth Tax Course and a frequent lecturer at the Annual Tax Planning Seminar for the Ottawa Chapter of the CMA Ontario.
